Sport hall athletics (boys)

A few days ago we went to the sports hall athletics at Brooksby Melton College. There were 11 schools, 7 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon. We were in the afternoon and we came 3rd overall. The races were mainly running but there was the odd obstacle race, over and under race and some field events. We won most of our races. Overall everyone did very well. I think there was only 24 points in it, so it was very close and we just managed to sneak the afternoon win. It was a very fun day and a very competitive one at that.

My swimming gala

My friends and I from class 2, 3 and 4 all went to Melton swimming pool. I was feeling nervous about it, I was doing backstroke and front crawl. We all got changed into our swimming costumes and warmed up, I was swimming first then Amelia went and so on. I messed up so much I went before the whistle was blown! I had to do it all again and I got 4th, I will try harder next year.

Then I had to wait a while for my next race which was the relay with Amelia, Ollie and Oscar. Oscar did so well in the races and he is only year 3! Then at the end was the result….we came 7th. WE did really well. Then we got changed back into our school things and headed back to school for Dance. That day was so much fun and I would love to do it again next year.

Cross Country Race
My goal is to win the cross country race at Prestwold Hall this Saturday. I will be taking part with Noah, Megan, Ophelia and Amelia. We will need to eat lots of pasta and vegetables to give us energy for the race. I have been practising hard at school and at home to be the best I can be in the race. Good luck to everyone. Cheer on Stathern!

Sports Relief Billion Steps Challenge
Well done to all pupils who took part in the Sport Relief steps challenge at lunchtimes this week. As a school we contributed 40,000 steps to Johnny Peacocks Billion steps a day challenge!! Fantastic work and thanks to Barney and Clara from sports crew for help with running the events.

On Friday 27th April, a squd of two girls and four boys went to do a challenging cycling event in the pouring rain! Our team was me, Daisy, Barney, Toby, William and Jack. This was a thrilling event. First up was the Italian pursuit. The team have to go in order 1 to 6, no. 1 does the least amount of laps and no. 6 the most. We did great and so did all the other teams. I think they showed amazing perseverance. Our time was 3 minutes 50 seconds. We then competed on the cross country course in a relay race one at a time. It was a big ring with lots of hard bends. We pictured this as a relay and took turns and came first!! We didn’t give up! One of the cyclists competing at the end looked so determined that we decided to run after her on the outside of the course and cheer her on. We don't know if this worked, but she went flying along the course!

All the people that entered did amazingly and thank you to Brooksby College for your facilities.

Watch out level 3, here we come!

By Heather

At the recent level three girls football tournament the girls; Scarlett, Marcia, Hannah, Amelia, Lucy, Amy, Heather, Olivia, Daisy and Moya performed brilliantly against some very skilful and tough teams. They were extremely hard to score against yet Stathern score two awesome goals! It was a tough day out but Stathern held their own. The team are now training hard and are looking forward to the girl’s football league coming up, which we hope to win!

A massive congratulation to all pupils who have taken part in the skipping and hula hoop challenges that have been organised and lead by sports crew members this term.

We have had a large number of pupils taking part and the majority of pupils have beaten their original scores!

Marcia and Matilda are top of the leader board for skipping with scores of 98 and 95 skips in 30 seconds.

Marcia is also top of the leader board for hula hooping with a score of 52 seconds of non-stop hula!

A big thank you for sports crew for organising and keep trying to beat your score over the last two weeks of term everyone!

Cricket tournament (years 3-6)

On the 23rd of May, Stathern primary school sent out a team of 10 young cricketers. For lots of us it was our first time at a cricket tournament. We were reasonably successful coming 7th out of 11 teams. We won 3 games and lost 3 narrowly. Captain of the team was William and he was a great leader and helped us secure a 7th place finish which is really good considering we are not the best at cricket. Sam and Oscar made a really successful debut. We may have not won but we came away really positive which is what counts.

#SGChallenges - Golden Mile Challenges

A massive well done to all the students who took put in the Golden Mile challenges that ran at lunchtimes last term.

Congratulations to Class 2 for winning the class competition with a massive total of 68.14 miles completed! They narrowly beat Class 3 who also managed a huge total of 64.3 miles! Fanatstic team effort from all the classes with class 1 recodring 16.4 miles and class 4 recording 4.8 miles.

Congratualtions to Innes Rahwangi-Green and Oliver Calder for superb individual effort. They both achieved an amazing 18 miles each for the half term and shared the individual prize.  Well done and fantastic role models to the rest of your class mates.

A massive well done to all Key stage 1 and year 3 pupils for a fantastic mini Olympics festival on Monday 2nd July. All pupils completed a variety of different sporting activities that were designed and run by our sports crew pupils from Years 5 and 6. A big thank you to sports crew for all your hard work and for a great afternoon of sport.
